Tivissa: Iberian History and Climbing Rocks

Kum-Castellet de Banyoles is located in Tivissa, an Iberian city on an elevated platform of approximately 4.5 hectares, strategically positioned to control the Ebro. Kum-Castellet de Banyoles is also part of the Ruta de los Iberos.

Culture

The fortification walls of Tivissa and the entrance portals of the fortified district are classified as a historic monument and as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN).

Hiking and Trails

A 4.7-kilometre GR-7 route leads to the Ermita de San Blai. The route is easy and is recommended for the whole family.

The rock paintings of Barranc de Vilella are located around 7 kilometres from Tivissa. A well-marked hiking trail leads to them. It forms part of an approximately 12-kilometre excursion that takes around four hours.

A signposted trail leads from Vandellòs/Fatxes through Tivissa and on to Ginestar. In Ginestar, it crosses the Ebro. In Aragón, the trail connects with the Camino de Santiago.

The trails described therefore include short routes to a single destination, a marked approach to rock paintings, and a longer connection through several towns. The route via Ginestar continues beyond the Ebro as far as Aragón.

Via Ferratas and Climbing

The Via Ferrata Barranc de la Foig is easy and suitable for beginners. It runs along the dry bed of a ravine. Experienced people can optionally descend it by abseiling.

The Via Ferrata Tormo de la Margarida is short and relatively airy. It offers options for a higher level of difficulty.

Tivissa has hundreds of climbing routes that provide access to the limestone cliffs in the surrounding area.

Mountains

The peaks in the vicinity of Tivissa include la Tossa. Punta de l'Àliga is also a peak in the vicinity of Tivissa. Coll del Ventall is another peak in this vicinity. Punta dels Caus is likewise a peak in the vicinity of Tivissa.
