Forès: Ruta del Cister, Viewpoint and Cultural Heritage

The GR 175, La Ruta del Cister, runs through Forès. La ruta de l’aigua leads to water-related cultural heritage sites in Forès, including the lower washhouse, the Pla de la Bassa basin, and the fountain and washhouse of Sant Miquel. For planning purposes, the two routes can be compared according to their focus.

The different themes can be considered side by side: routes and water-related cultural heritage sites are complemented by landscapes, views, architectural history, festival dates and craft traditions. Culture and History

A guided tour visits the exterior and interior of the Romanesque and Gothic church of Sant Miquel de Forès, as well as the medieval cemetery. The surviving Romanesque building of Sant Miquel de Forès is dated approximately to the second half of the 12th century. Sant Miquel de Forès was extended in the 14th century; two square side chapels were built on either side of the nave, forming a kind of transept. The original south portal is round-arched and funnel-shaped; there are four columns on each side.

The Creu del Camí a Rocafort de Queralt, also known as Creu de Rocafort, is Gothic and stands on the road from the direction of Conesa. The Creu de la Bassa is located at the entrance to Forès from the direction of Passanant or Solivell-Sarral. The restored Cub de Vi stands as a decorative element on the Plaça del Mirador de Forès; it was formerly used to crush grapes and produce wine.

Festivals and Crafts

The Festa Major de Forès takes place on the last weekend in August. The Festa de la Mare de Déu de la Salut takes place in Forès every year on 7 December; it currently includes a mass followed by a communal lunch attended by those present. Since 2007, the Festa de Lo Mandongo has revived an old tradition of pork processing in Forès; experts assist participants in making llangonisses and botifarres.
