Nature and Landscape

The Massís de Bonastre is an extensive area of low mountains between the plains of Alt Camp and Baix Penedès, characterized by wooded areas and traditional Mediterranean tree cultivation. Within the Natura 2000 network, it is designated both as a ZEPA and as an LIC under code ES5140014 and covers 2,680.29 ha. Bonastre’s landscape heritage includes dry-stone structures, areas of biodiversity and tunnels from former mining activities. The eastern section of Bonastresc leads into the PEIN area Massís de Bonastre, which belongs to the Natura 2000 network because it is a nesting area for the Bonelli’s eagle (Aquila fasciata).

Culture

The parish church of Santa Magdalena in Bonastre was restored between 1941 and 1945 by the modernist architect Josep M. Jujol; the baptismal font and the tabernacle are attributed to him. Cal Ferrer is considered the oldest house in Bonastre and is also known as Casa del Delme, as the tithes intended for the Sant Cugat monastery were collected there. Cal Fontanilles features sgraffiti dated 1853, with garlands, friezes and classical columns, a hunting scene in the lower section, and the coats of arms of Catalonia and Bonastre.

The Font de Santa Magdalena is a public spring near the church and on the TV-2041 road. The Font de Santa Quitèria is a public spring on Carrer Major between Carrers del Mig and Jesús.

In Bonastre, the Festa Major Petita in honor of Santa Quitèria takes place on 22 May. On 23 June, the arrival of the Flama del Canigó takes place, and the Revetlla de Sant Joan is celebrated on the same day.
