Lilla between Coll de Lilla and Serra Carbonària

Lilla lies below Coll de Lilla, a natural pass between Valls and Montblanc, and at the foot of the Serra Carbonària. The village is located next to the N-240 road. The building that formerly housed the school and the former syndicate also preserves a historical detail. A lintel bears the year 1610 and the inscription “misser Antoni Magrinyà”. The history of the castle dates back to the Andalusian period. At that time, Muslims built a castle in Lilla with defensive and control functions for Coll de Lilla. The fortress is said to have already been conquered by Christian forces around 1011. The repopulation of Lilla did not begin until the middle of the 12th century. The castle, conquest and repopulation thus mark successive historical periods that are closely connected with the pass and the development of the town.
