Riba-roja d’Ebre: Culture by the Reservoir and Paths along the Ebro

Culture and History

La Garita de Pinyeres is a tower probably dating from the 19th century and has been declared a Bé Cultural d’Interès Nacional.

The parish church of Sant Bartomeu is late Baroque; its completion took place in 1789. The Romanesque Ermita de Berrús is dedicated to Santa Magdalena. During the construction of the reservoir, the chapel was relocated stone by stone, linking its present location to the history of the reservoir.

The remains of a former Templar and Hospitaller castle can also be found in the town. At the Teuleria de la Boca de la Vall, remains of walls from various areas of use have been preserved. There are also the remains of an earlier kiln in which roof tiles were fired.

The historical evidence therefore brings together different forms of construction and uses: a tower with a probable date, a late-Baroque parish church, a Romanesque chapel, a former castle complex and the structural remains of a teuleria. Each site preserves its own connection to the history of Riba-roja d’Ebre.

Paths and Historical Traces

The Punta de l'Home route passes trenches and shelters. During the Spanish Civil War, these formed part of the Republican defensive line.

The Camí Natural de l'Ebre bears the designation GR-99. It passes the bridge at Riba-roja d’Ebre and continues from there towards Flix. After crossing the bridge, Riba-roja d’Ebre is slightly more than one kilometre away.

On the Ruta de les Sabateres, the Cova del Piquer is located on the right-hand side of the path. The distance to this cave is 1.7 km. The specific distance and its position on the right-hand side of the path are among the details provided for this route.
