Saône-et-Loire: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Saône-et-Loire combines extensive cycle paths, archaeological sites and diverse landscapes. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Saône-et-Loire can then continue their accommodation search. The 144-kilometre Boucle de Bourgogne du Sud combines cycling with gastronomy and oenology and connects the Voie Verte of the Côte chalonnaise with the Voie Bleue between Chalon-sur-Saône and Mâcon. Chalon-sur-Saône and Mâcon are starting towns for the Boucle de Bourgogne du Sud; both are served by trains on which bicycles can be carried.

Cycle paths and landscapes

The route along the Canal du Centre is 100 per cent signposted in both directions. It combines cultural heritage, industrial heritage and open countryside. It also includes the restored Moulin de Sorine. The Mâcon–Cluny stage passes through the Bois-Clair Tunnel, described as the longest tunnel in Europe open to cyclists. France’s first voie verte ran between Buxy and Cluny. In the Mâconnais, karst landscapes and vineyards stretching as far as the Saône shape the scenery.

Nature

The ENS 71 network in Saône-et-Loire comprises six sites belonging to the Département and one site currently managed under this programme. The ENS-71 sites showcase the habitats, fauna and flora of Saône-et-Loire. Existing ENS-71 sites can be accessed free of charge year-round. Nature educators offer themed guided group tours at ENS-71 sites.

Culture and history

The Bibracte Museum is located at the foot of the archaeological site. It presents its fortification walls, craft workshops, houses, public spaces and necropolis. Bibracte’s virtual gallery comprises more than 150 objects from the museum collections and from the world of Bibracte. In Cluny, digital reconstructions, augmented-reality stations and a 3D film explain the surviving and lost remains. Cluny is served by bus route LR 701 between Chalon-sur-Saône, Cluny and Mâcon.

Hiking

The Via Cluny is a 550-kilometre French-Swiss long-distance hiking trail from Payerne to Cluny. It comprises 26 stages, two variants and eleven possible loops.
