Saint-Vallier is predominantly rural in character and features numerous bocage landscapes, as well as many wooded areas and forests. The signposted circular hiking trail Au loin, les forêts is 5.8 km long and starts and ends at the Cimetières des Mazilles cemetery in Saint-Vallier.

The Sentier de randonnée des Baudins hiking trail starts at Parc des Tilleuls on Rue Victor Hugo in Saint-Vallier.
Transport and Canal
Saint-Vallier is connected to the RCEA, the Route Centre-Europe Atlantique. The town is also served by the Galuzot TER railway station, which is located on the Montchanin–Moulins line and on TER Bourgogne line no. 13.
The Vernois lock system on the Canal du Centre has a staircase at the lower gate leading to the canal bank.
Culture and History
The Les Chavannes washhouse complex is located in Saint-Vallier and also extends into Montceau-les-Mines. A Polish cultural presence in Saint-Vallier is associated with gastronomic traditions such as charcuterie and pastries.
The former girls’ school in Saint-Vallier was built in stages from 1869 to 1893. Part of the former girls’ school complex is now used by the municipal music school and serves as a wedding hall.
