Tavernay: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Nature

Tavernay lies on the Ternin River and has been part of the Parc naturel régional du Morvan since 2008.

History

The parish church of Saint Laurent was consecrated on 29 July 1872. The former Saint Laurent church already existed in 1164 and was demolished in 1868–1869 during the construction of the new church. The cemetery, which is still in existence, is the only surviving evidence of the site of the former Saint Laurent church.

The Château de Morcoux is a château dating from the 17th or early 18th century. The Château de Morcoux complex includes a chapel listed as a historic monument.

The Gare de Tavernay in La Comaille has been preserved as a former station of the Tacot railway on the line between Autun and Château-Chinon, which opened in 1900. Today, it is used as a private residence and retains its railway-station layout with a shed, station building, offices and the railway employee’s apartment; nearby is a small wooden building known as a lampisterie.

Cycling

The Boucle d’Autun cycling route passes through Tavernay. It is marked exclusively for cycling in a counterclockwise direction and signposted with red number 2 markers.

Culture

L’Arche d’Uriel is a space for handcrafted creations centered around chocolate and ceramics. Work there mainly involves Puisaye and Burgundian stoneware; the items produced include tableware and animal figures inspired by the wildlife of the Morvan.
