Sigy-le-Châtel preserves striking traces of its history within a small area. The Château de Sigy-le-Châtel is one of the oldest castles in the Mâconnais and was first mentioned in the 10th century. Remains of the walls, the bases of two large round towers and the corner of a building with a watch turret have survived.
Culture
The former church of the Saint Nicolas priory, dating from the 12th century, is also part of the historic heritage. In the hamlet of Hautecour, the Château de la Motte was built by the Thivolet family at the end of the 18th century. There is also an imposing barn belonging to the monks of Cluny.
Maison Monnier was listed as a historic monument by a decree dated 20 August 2009. The building has an open gallery with monolithic stone columns; its eastern tower contains a dovecote. Maison Monnier is a manor house probably built in 1795. The Church of Saint Nicolas offers an audio tour in the form of an acoustic postcard.

Nature
Sigy-le-Châtel lies within the ZNIEFF “Grosne et Guye”. In the vicinity of Sigy-le-Châtel, this area includes the floodplains of the Grosne and the Guye with adjoining slopes, a small section of calcareous plateaux at the confluence of the two rivers, alluvial forests, waterways, hedgerows, fallow land and calcareous woodlands. The site is classified as a rural, historic and natural site.
Numerous cadoles have been recorded in the forests above the hamlet of Hautecour; they were formerly located in the vineyards.
Activities
Sigy-le-Châtel is a stop on a 59 km circular route starting from Salornay-sur-Guye. Along this circular route, visitors can see the feudal castle, the medieval ruins, Maison Monnier and the Romanesque church of the former Saint-Nicolas priory.
The local association dedicated to preserving the church and cultural heritage organises concerts in the church, a flea market and walks to support its work. The association of the old Château de Sigy-le-Châtel organised a theatre festival on the castle grounds to showcase the castle ruins.
