Culture and History

The Église Saint-Barthélémy combines a Romanesque bell tower with a Neo-Gothic church. It was extended in 1830 and extensively remodelled between 1872 and 1875. During this work, its entrance was moved to beneath the eastern side of the bell tower; today, the building faces west. The tympanum above the main entrance bears the year 1873 and the inscription “A la gloire de Dieu”.

The Romanesque Doyenné de Saint-Hippolyte in the host municipality of Bonnay-Saint-Ythaire has been documented since around the year 1000 and was the seat of a deanery of Cluny Abbey. In the 13th century, the Doyenné de Saint-Hippolyte was fortified.

Saint-Ythaire is also home to a 17th-century manor house with turrets.

Château de Cormatin, a château, is located in the area surrounding Saint-Ythaire. The Église Sainte-Blaise, a church, is also located nearby. The Abbaye de Cluny, a historic site, lies in the wider surrounding region of Saint-Ythaire; Chabotte, a château, is also located there.
