History
The Notre Dame des Vignes statue was erected in 1862 on the site of a chapel destroyed during the Revolution. The church of La Chapelle-de-Guinchay was completed in 1878 and consecrated in 1889; its bell tower was built in 1928. The church square is also home to a statue of Marianne, erected on 14 July 1889 to mark the centenary of the storming of the Bastille.
The church of La Chapelle-de-Guinchay is a Gothic-style building with stained-glass windows and paintings, constructed according to plans by the architect Berthier. The Sentier Imaginaire passes the mural in the town centre, which forms one of its stops.
Local life
Every Sunday morning from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., a food market is held on the Place de l'Église, offering products from farms, regional produce and organic products from local producers. In La Chapelle-de-Guinchay, visitors can visit local wine cellars, where winegrowers and wine merchants offer their wines for tasting.
The Château des Boccards is located in the Chénas wine-growing region and produces the single-vineyard Chénas “En Papolet” as well as a Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay. The vines of the Château des Boccards are cultivated using organic farming methods. At the Château des Boccards, visitors can tour the winery and taste its vintages.
Nature
The Vallon de la Mauvaise route runs across two slopes separated by the shady Mauvaise valley and leads to the foothills of the Montagne de Remont.
Geographical setting
Pontanevaux railway station is located 2 kilometres from the town centre. La Chapelle-de-Guinchay is also situated on La Route des Vins, a route more than 60 kilometres long passing through winegrowing villages.
