Culture and history
The Château de Chaintré has a keep dating from the 13th century. Construction of the Château de Chaintré dates back approximately to the year 1000. In the Middle Ages, it was an old fief and part of the southern defences of Mâcon.
At the Château des Quarts, which was also referred to as the Château de Chaintré, there is a wrought-iron entrance gate dating from the early 18th century. A tool discovered in 1940 on the western slope of the Chaintré hill is cited as evidence of the presence of prehistoric people approximately 120,000 years ago in the area of what would later become Cantriacum.
Equestrian sports
The Mâcon/Chaintré equestrian centre is located at the foot of the Château de Chaintré. With a suitable selection of horses, it offers various riding disciplines for all levels. The equestrian centre hosts renowned competitions every year, which visitors can attend free of charge.
Hiking and location
The Balmont Haut hiking trail runs along the slope through vineyards and leads through the centre of Chaintré. It offers panoramic views of the surrounding villages overlooking the Bresse.
Chaintré is three minutes from the Mâcon-Loché TGV station.
