Trails and Landscape

There are two hiking trails in Sancé: one in the town centre and one on La Grisière hill. The Chemin de la Grisière begins in the village of Sancé and leads through a landscape of forests, meadows and vineyards. The La Grisière area includes forests, hiking trails, a pond and more recent reforestation areas. On the return journey, the road to La Grisière offers panoramic views of the village and the Saône plain.

Culture and History

The Notre-Dame de Lorette Chapel was built in the 16th century by Jacques Mareschal. The chapel contains the tombstone of Jacques Mareschal, his wife Claudine and their son; they died in 1512.

Château de Châtenay was rebuilt in the 16th century on the site of an 11th-century tower. The Romanesque Church of Saint-Paul in Sancé dates from the 12th century.

ÃŽle Saint-Jean, also known as ÃŽle Palme, is probably one of the oldest inhabited sites in the region and has been settled since the Neolithic period. The washhouse, whose name derives from a soldier, was built in the 19th century by the architect Roch.

Walking Tours

A simple 1-kilometre thematic trail begins at Sancé Town Hall. A tour through Sancé takes in traditional Mâcon houses, whose galleries have slender posts and which feature stone staircases. Three washhouses, built and equipped in the 18th and 19th centuries, are located along a thematic trail through Sancé.
