Gergy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Gergy combines a vast landscape with distinctive buildings and paths along the Saône. The Forêt de Gergy is recorded as a 1,750-hectare lowland forest of deciduous trees and was already included on the Cassini maps. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Gergy can consider the town as a destination.

Nature and Trails

The Voie Bleue is a cycle path more than 700 km long that connects Luxembourg with Lyon. In Gergy, hiking trails also lead through forests, plains and towpaths. The Marche du 1er mai includes three hiking routes of 5 km, 7.6 km and 16 km. They run, among other places, along the Saône, through the Bois de la Mouille, and towards Croix Bordet and Étang du Mur.

The Jardin de la Renaudière is a 7,000 m² garden with English- and Tuscan-inspired areas, tree-lined paths, a pond and meadows; visits are arranged by telephone. The Friendly Rosalies offer families and groups an original and playful way to explore Gergy along the Saône.

Culture and History

At the Villa “La Croix blanche” in Gergy, Hilaire de Chardonnet established his first research and experimental workshop for producing artificial silk. The interior of the Église Saint-Germain de Gergy features capitals decorated with flowers, leaves and hooks, carvings of fantastic animals and human heads, as well as a keystone bearing a lily cross.

The fief of Meix-Berthaud was created in 1428 by Jean Lebault, Lord of Gergy. The present-day Château de Meix-Berthaud was built by Louis Quarré in 1668; the passage building bears the year 1669 on a niche. The Château includes a central building with two projecting wings, a wood-panelled chapel and a horseshoe staircase leading to the park entrance.

The 216-metre-long and 8-metre-wide Pont Boucicaut connects Gergy and Verjux across the Saône. Its current metal deck rests on five masonry piers; the remains of the markings from the former structure have been preserved at both ends. Marguerite Boucicaut financed important construction projects, including the bridge between Gergy and Verjux.
