In Toutenant, the historic salt road La Vie Gravée runs through the municipality and follows the boundary between Sermesse and Toutenant. Historically, it connected the Verdunois with the saltworks of the Jura.

Culture
At the southern end of the village of Toutenant, the Church of the Nativité de la Vierge stands in the cemetery. The present building replaced the previous church in 1869: it was built in the Romanesque Revival style according to the plans and cost estimates dated 1867 by the architect Narjoux. The large Romanesque Revival building was designed to accommodate more than 350 worshippers.
The building housing Toutenant's town hall and boys' school was erected in 1888.
Landscape
Toutenant lies in the bocage landscape of the Bresse and has a very dispersed settlement structure with more than a dozen hamlets. Most of the outlying settlements and hamlets originated in the Middle Ages. The settlement architecture of Toutenant is considered Bressan.
Culinary delights
At the Ferme du Mezaneau, visits to the goat farm and free cheese tastings for groups are available year-round by prior reservation. The Élevage de volailles de Bresse Girardeau poultry farm offers tours by appointment, during which visitors can gain insights into the rearing of Bresse chickens.
The Ferme du Mézaneau has a cheese dairy and a reception area for motorhomes. The Ferme du Mezaneau processes the milk produced by its dairy cows directly in the cheese dairy next to the farm.
