Culture
The church of La Comelle was consecrated in 1901, replacing an older church.
La Comelle is also home to the Château des Boursons, a 19th-century château in the Neoclassical style. Grand Laume is considered the birthplace of Jeanne Barret.
A feudal château stood in the hamlet of Le Jeu, situated on a hill and remodelled in the 18th century. The Château du Jeu is privately owned and cannot be visited. The “Le Jeu et les Moulins” route passes by it.
The Maison de Bourgogne is thought to date from the 17th century and was a post station on the former Voie Royale between Nevers and Arnay-le-Duc. Today, it is an association dedicated to preserving the heritage of old and regional fruit cultivation. It offers workshops on pruning and grafting fruit trees, orchard care, and the production of soap, natural paints and lime plaster.
According to local belief, the Fontaine Sainte-Claire is credited with water that has healing properties for eye conditions. The former Sainte-Claire chapel on the Montagne de la Garde has disappeared. It was the destination of a major pilgrimage and was associated with a spring whose water was believed to have therapeutic properties. Its location is uncertain.
Nature
The botanical trail is exceptionally rich in plant life. Among other things, it features edible wild lamb’s lettuce as well as plants considered useful or medicinal.
L’Appel des Bois offers a two-hour walk in La Comelle to identify edible wild plants, sharing nature-related recipes along the way. At “L’Echappée Morvan d’Ailes”, visitors can take part in a guided walk through the forest with free-flying birds of prey and receive an introduction to falconry.
Paths and Routes
The “Par la Voie Romaine” hiking route starts at the church square in La Comelle and leads into the Bois de Bernard.
The Circuit VTT-FFC La Comelle is 31.0 km long and rated as difficult. This rating applies both to mountain bikes and electrically assisted mountain bikes.
