Landscape
La Grande-Verrière is surrounded by the state-owned forest landscape of Glenne and the Méchet Valley. The village was situated on the historic road between Bibracte and Augustodunum (Autun).

History and Heritage
Fragments of a Roman mosaic were found in the hamlet of Buisson in La Grande-Verrière. The remains of the Château fort des Roches de Glenne belong to one of the most important châtellenies in the Morvan.
Individual tours of the Château de Vautheau are possible by reservation on the first Saturday of each month from May to August. Every summer, concerts, drawing courses, hikes, Heritage Days events, and private tours are held there.
Hiking
The Circuit du Château is a 10.6 km moderate hiking trail in La Grande-Verrière. It starts at Place de la Mairie and ends at Place de la mairie. Along the route, it passes the access road to Château de Savilly and follows the Méchet, a trout stream.
The Circuit du Grand Vernay leads towards Château Boutton.
Cycling
The Anost–La Grande-Verrière stage of the Grande Traversée du Massif Central à VTT ends with a pleasant descent to La Grande-Verrière and offers beautiful unobstructed views to the west.
