Clessé is a wine-growing village with a diverse landscape of vineyards, meadows, farmland and forests. From Clessé Stadium, there are views across the Saône plain, the Bresse region and the foothills of the Jura.

Culture and history
In the hamlet of Quintaine, the Saint-Trivier church was built on the site of an earlier Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Trivier. The church contains stained-glass windows donated by Marie Gillet in 1864. The Chapelle Saint-Trivier in the hamlet of Quintaine continues to be visited as a pilgrimage site, including for the healing of certain ailments; it also has 19th-century stained-glass windows.
The Notre-Dame de Clessé church has been listed as a monument historique since 1929; its bell tower has been classified since 1930. The Notre-Dame church of Clessé dates from 1090 and features two Romanesque construction phases. The surviving octagonal bell tower was apparently built in the second half of the 12th century.
The “La mémoire de pierre” exhibition gallery opened in 1990 in the Tinailler of Maison Guiochon. It permanently displays models of regional architectural monuments made from lava stone by Jean PIERRE.
Routes through the village
Walking routes lead through the vineyards of Clessé. The “Parcours de Quintaine” starts at the washhouse in the hamlet of Quintaine, while the “Parcours du Bourg” starts at the church of Clessé.
The “L'échappée de Senozan” route leads through the vineyards and near the Château de Besseuil to the centre of Clessé.
Wine and local traditions
The Cave Coopérative de Clessé was founded in 1927. The Viré-Clessé controlled designation of origin was recognised in 1998. During the “Printemps du Cru Viré-Clessé”, 24 wineries and cellars open their doors throughout the weekend to present the Viré-Clessé appellation. The recurring “Printemps du Cru Viré-Clessé” takes place on 18 and 19 April 2026.
