Culture

The hamlet of Lys is also home to the Église Notre-Dame, a completely Romanesque former parish church with a tall bell tower featuring a gabled roof. Its wall paintings date from the late 13th century and the 17th century.

The Église Saint-Pierre is a Romanesque church; its nave and bell tower date from the early 12th century. The tall bell tower has three storeys, coupled arched windows and Lombard bands beneath a high stone pyramidal roof. The church contains two baptismal fonts dating from the 10th century. They come from the former Romanesque church in the hamlet of Prayes, which was destroyed at the beginning of the 20th century. The capitals depict the Nativity with the Annunciation and the Annunciation to the Shepherds, three scenes from the life of King David featuring his battle with Goliath, two demonic masks, winged dragons and foliage.

The Musée de la Natation is located in the priory of the Château de Lys in Chissey-lès-Mâcon. It traces the history of swimming in the sea, rivers and swimming pools, as well as the development of competitive swimming. On display are photographs of champions, posters for sporting events, medals, paintings and postcards. The collection also includes a women's bathing suit from 1860, as well as models of historic bathing facilities from the 19th century and the first French Parisian swimming pool, dating from 1884.

Crafts

In the hamlet of Lys, near the washhouse and around the central square, there are craft workers including a tapestry weaver, a bronze worker, a shoemaker and a leatherworker. Visitors can enter the craftspeople's workshops and watch them demonstrate their skills.

The Atelier de la Lisse in the hamlet of Lys in Chissey-lès-Mâcon offers six-day courses in haute-lisse weaving and woven tapestry. The workshop is open to the public year-round; as customers or exhibitions may be present, calling in advance is recommended.

Chissey-lès-Mâcon is one of the municipalities within the Natura 2000 site FR2601016 “Bocage, forêts et milieux humides du bassin de la Grosne et du Clunisois”.
