Prostějov District: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Prostějov District (Prostějovsko) combines the Drahanská vrchovina highlands with the broad Haná Plain. Between these landscapes lies Velký Kosíř, which, at 442 metres, is considered the highest peak of Haná and is associated with Kosíř Nature Park.

Landscape

The marked Naučná stezka Velký Kosíř educational trail is suitable for walks and mountain-bike excursions. The Naučná stezka na Stráž trail is also suitable for children and pushchairs; along the route there are two rest areas and ten information boards.

The Hrdibořické rybníky are a wetland and marshland area near Hrdibořice in Prostějov District. They provide habitats for wetland birds and amphibians and contain rare plants, including potočnice drobnolistá and matizna bahenní.

Culture

Historic windmills have been preserved in Suchdol, Hačky and Přemyslovice. Local traditions include hody festivals, bear processions, the burial of the bass, Easter whipping traditions and Christmas customs.

The museum’s archaeology collection is its largest collection and comprises 300,000 inventory numbers. The museum also preserves archaeological finds from the La Tène site of Staré Hradisko. Staré Hradisko is described as the most important Celtic hillfort in Moravia.

The Muzeum a galerie v Prostějově uses rooms in the former Renaissance town hall and presents collections on clocks, geology, ethnography, archaeology and Jewish history.

Winter and cycling

Small ski areas can be found in Kladky and Malé Hradisko. Two groomed cross-country skiing circuits are located in the Protivanovsko area: Okruh Malé Hradisko and Protivanovský okruh.

The historic Jantarová stezka ran through Prostějovsko as a trade route associated with amber between the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean. Cycle Route 5, known as Jantarová cyklostezka, passes through Prostějovsko. Most sections of the Romže cycle path run away from roads on asphalt; near Bělecký Mlýn, there are sections on gravel and forest paths.

Water

The Plumlov Reservoir has sandy and grassy beaches; there is a boat rental service on the south shore. A circular route for walking and cycling runs around the Plumlov Reservoir. Facilities on site include guarded parking, a campsite, motorest or hotel accommodation and snack stands.

Regional features

In Otinoves, a cheese producer makes Niva cheese. Sugar is produced at the Vrbátky sugar factory.
