Lázně Skalka was founded in 1928 and uses four named local mineral springs: PRAMEN SVATOPLUK, PRAMEN CYRIL A METODĚJ, STUDÁNKA JULINKA and STUDÁNKA JAN. The Chapel of St. John the Baptist in Skalka was built in 1828; its name is associated with the local healing springs.

Culture and history

The Pivín–Skalka educational trail was officially opened in August 2019 and features eight information panels covering the history of the municipalities, the surrounding nature and the spa facilities. It was created by Veronika Janíková and implemented in cooperation with the municipalities of Pivín and Skalka.

Nature and activities

Skalka's spa park is located on the site of the former Bařisko pond. In the spa forest, the “Tóny lesa” project includes newly installed educational and play elements – an educational dendrophone, a memory game and “Strom jako dům” – as well as balance and fitness elements and a forest megaphone. The sports area at Lázně Skalka includes a multi-purpose court and a miniature golf course.

Landscape

Skalka - písky is an extensive, horseshoe-shaped former quarry with a diameter of 70 m and walls 10–12 m high. It is located near Lázně Skalka on a marked hiking trail and displays a unique sequence of Sub-Badenian sediments.

Jezírka Skalka is a geotourism site; the former small quarries are now filled with water, and greywackes of the Myslejovice Formation emerge from the Sub-Badenian pelites of the Carpathian Foredeep Basin.

Surroundings

The Předina mountain is located in the immediate vicinity of Skalka. The monuments Socha sv. Jana Nepomuckého and Pomník obětem 1. světové války, as well as Chlum mountain and Kelecká hill (Otaslavice), are located in the surroundings of Skalka.

In the wider regional surroundings of Skalka are Horka mountain and the ruins of Hrádek and Kuchlov.
