Pivín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the centre of Pivín stands the single-nave Baroque Church of St George. Fragmentarily preserved remains of its former surrounding wall complement the historic appearance of the church.

Culture and Pilgrimage

St George’s Church is also a Marian pilgrimage site and an immovable cultural monument. The image of the Virgin Mary of Pivín was donated to the church on 8 October 1745 and placed above the tabernacle in 1753. The main altar features an altarpiece of St George created by the renowned Olomouc painter Josef Handke.

Historically, processions to Our Lady of Pivín took place from spring to autumn. 8 September became established as the most important and later the only Pivín pilgrimage. Pivín’s customs also include Ostatky, featuring a masked procession through the village and the burial of the double bass; the burning of witches in April; the raising and felling of the maypole in May; and the traditional Domlácená in August.

Nature and Geology

Skalka–písky is a former sandstone quarry in Lower Badenian sediments. The site displays an unusual sequence of Lower Badenian sediments and is regarded as a geotourism attraction and an excursion site. It is also located in the cadastral area of Pivín and can be reached from the road via a walkable tourist trail.

Cycling Route and Educational Trail

The marked cycling route No. 5013 leads from the direction of Skalka to Pivín. It is classified as moderately difficult, runs along Class II and Class III roads, and has an asphalt surface.

The Pivín–Skalka educational trail comprises eight information boards covering the history of the municipalities, the surrounding nature, and the spa towns. The trail was officially opened in August 2019.
