Vřesovice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Church of St. Peter and Paul is the oldest historic monument in Vřesovice. It has a Gothic chancel; its present three-nave form was created by an extension towards the end of the 17th century.

Culture and history

The church has a freestanding bell tower dating from 1747, which houses three bells from 1990. In the park below the church stand a Baroque statue of the Virgin Mary and a stylised Holy Sepulchre dating from 1882.

Vřesovice Castle was built between 1702 and 1704 under Abbot Norbert Želecký of Počenice. In hunting literature, it appears as a Baroque hunting lodge. The former castle chapel houses the Vřesovice Memorial, which primarily preserves written, photographic and smaller material evidence from the village. Its objects include a reconciliation cross dated 1599.

Other historic buildings include the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, a Baroque historic monument in the Prostějov region dating from the first half of the 18th century, and the Chapel of the Holy Cross in the cemetery, dating from 1717. The entrance gate to the Vřesovice cemetery incorporates a statue of St. John of Nepomuk.

Eleven immovable cultural monuments in Vřesovice are listed in the Central List of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. Living traditions are also part of the village character: the “Hrkání” tradition has been preserved without interruption. Before Easter, a procession of children carrying wooden rattles passes through the village.

The Church of St. Peter and Paul can be visited by prior arrangement. The Vřesovice Memorial is regularly open to the public once a year during the Hody festival of St. Peter and Paul; throughout the year, it can also be visited by prior telephone appointment with the municipal office.

Events and cycle path

The brass music festival “Pod hanáckým nebem” takes place annually in Vřesovice. For cyclists, the Dobrochov–Kelčice–Vřesovice–Výšovice cycle path was listed as completed in 2022.

Landscape and surroundings

At 312 metres, Předina is the highest point in the cadastral area of Vřesovice and is home to the Dobrochov transmitter. The Vřesůvka stream rises on the southern edge of Vřesovice and flows through the village.

In the immediate vicinity of Vřesovice, a sulphurous mineral spring emerges directly north of the village edge on the right bank of the Vřesůvka. Its composition resembles that of the nearby spring in Skalka.

In the immediate vicinity of Vřesovice, between Dobrochov, Kelčice and Vřesovice, the 10-metre-high wooden Štátule lookout tower stands on the 312-metre-high Předina hill. It can be reached from Vřesovice via country lanes. In the immediate vicinity of Vřesovice, admission to the lookout tower is free; visits are at your own risk.

The nearest railway station is Pivín on the Olomouc–Nezamyslice line. It is 5 kilometres by road from Vřesovice.
