Holiday apartment in Otaslavice: hillfort, museums and cycling route

Otaslavice lies on gentle slopes and in a stream valley at the transition from the Haná Plain to the hills and forests of the Drahanská vrchovina. This brings historical discoveries, water-based activities, village history and a low-difficulty cycling route together within a compact thematic area.

Above Otaslavice lies Obrova noha, a 9.5-hectare prehistoric hillfort site. The site was inhabited in the Eneolithic period. The three surviving concentric lines of fortification were built in the Early Bronze Age; traces of settlement from the Late La Tène period were also identified in the outer bailey. Obrova noha also has a preserved remnant of a fourth rampart. Anyone interested in early settlements and visible traces of bygone eras will encounter an unusually multilayered local history here.

St. Michael’s Church also brings together several historical periods. It was built at the time the upper castle was founded and is mentioned in 1330 together with the priest Jan. The present church was built in the Tudor Gothic Revival style; the nave dates from 1847, while the chancel with its altar dates from 1890. The Hladomorna belongs to the medieval castle complex and is a listed remnant of the tower of the lower castle, as well as one of the oldest structures in Otaslavice. The lower castle was destroyed in 1424 and was never rebuilt. Part of the stone keep survives, with window surrounds or a portal; the coat of arms of the Lords of Kunštát is still visible above it.

The Muzeum řemesel presents village life through the crafts associated with Otaslavice. It features reconstructed areas of a bakery, a hairdressing salon and a mill. The museum is housed in a vicarage probably dating from around 1330. A covered passage called Pavláčka leads from the vicarage across a bridge over a depression in the terrain to the church. With its 40 steps, it was part of the grounds of the old church. The Muzeum Josefa Františka comprises six large-format panels, three of which are dedicated to Josef František, a hero of the Battle of Britain.

Water, disc golf and cycling

For a different kind of day out, the Koupací biotop is available. It has been a local attraction since 2018 and was created on the site of a former outdoor swimming pool. The Discgolf Park Otaslavice next to the Koupací biotop is open to the general public. Admission to the disc golf park is free. Discs can be rented against a deposit at the outdoor pool’s cash desk, or from the municipal office when the pool is closed. This makes it possible to combine quieter explorations of the village with a playful activity when planning your day, without limiting your stay to a single area of interest.

Cyclists will also find a specific point of interest in Otaslavice: the Rodinná trasa cycling route runs successively through Myslejovice, Otaslavice and Brodek u Prostějova. It is classified as a low-difficulty cycling route. Otaslavice also has bus connections towards Prostějov and Nezamyslice. These two forms of transport offer different ways to incorporate the village and its surroundings into your holiday planning.

Events and sightseeing opportunities

The Sankt-Michaels-Hody festivities, with a pilgrimage and fair, usually take place on the first Sunday in October. The Muzeum řemesel can be visited during municipal celebrations or by appointment with the municipal office in Otaslavice.
