Stařechovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Stařechovice combines a clearly defined natural area with sacred art and traces of history. In the Služín district lies the 42-hectare Brus Nature Monument, a botanical site with forest and steppe communities.

Nature and Landscape

The Velký Kosíř Nature Park extends across the cadastral territories of Stařechovice and Služín. Stařechovice lies below Velký Kosíř and near the last foothills of the Drahanská vrchovina uplands. The nature monument, nature park and location at Velký Kosíř give the area a landscape in which forest and steppe areas are just as much a part of the scenery as the hill’s characteristic surroundings.

Church and Art

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was completely rebuilt in 1718 in a restrained Baroque style. Its main altar is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Stařechovice’s sacred art also includes the Stařechovice Madonna: made of limewood, it measures 114 centimetres and typologically belongs to the group of Madonnas of the so-called Beautiful Style.

Independently, a Gothic Madonna from the early 15th century has been preserved in Stařechovice; it is regarded as a monument of exceptional cultural and historical value. Below Velký Kosíř, the Chapel of Saint Martin also stands in Stařechovice’s Služín district.

History and Pilgrimage

Numerous archaeological finds have been discovered in Stařechovice, particularly from the Bronze Age. The church feast falls on 8 September; the Stařechovice pilgrimage takes place on this day. Thus, archaeological evidence stands alongside a church festival tradition in the history of the village.

Hiking Trail and Transport

The “Za Josefem Mánesem” hiking trail leads to the Stařechovice wayside cross. From the Stařechovice wayside cross, the “Za Josefem Mánesem” hiking trail branches off into the village to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Stařechovice is served by regular bus routes.
