Vranovice-Kelčice: Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vranovice-Kelčice is located in the Prostějov Hills on the southwestern edge of the Upper Moravian Depression. The landscape is a gently undulating, low hilly area whose broad, rounded ridges are crossed by the valleys of the Kelčický potok. The D46 expressway runs between the two parts of the municipality; it connects the municipality via the grade-separated, figure-eight-shaped Vranovice-Kelčice interchange.

Nature

The western part of the cadastral territory of Vranovice-Kelčice extends into the Blátka Nature Reserve. The Kelčický potok crosses the settlement along its entire length from west to east. The Blátka Nature Reserve comprises meadows, wetlands and woodland around the Kelčický potok and is home to protected plants. It covers approximately 84 hectares and was designated in 1985.

Paths and Views

Cycle Route No. 5041 runs through Vranovice-Kelčice along the Určice–Dětkovice–Vranovice–Kelčice–Dobrochov–Brodek u Prostějova route. Předina, with a broadcasting transmitter and the “Štátule” lookout tower, lies in the area of Kelčice and above Dobrochov. The lookout tower on Předina is a 10-metre-high wooden tower with an 8-metre-high viewing platform. From there, the view extends to the Jeseníky, Hostýnské vrchy, Záhoří, Drahanská vrchovina and Chřiby mountain ranges. Předina rises to 313 metres and is considered the geographical centre of Moravia; in the past, it was a destination for excursions and gatherings. The “Štátule” lookout tower is designated as freely accessible year-round.

History and Local Character

Vranovice is first mentioned in written records in 1337 and belonged to Prostějov from the 16th century until 1848. Kelčice is first reliably mentioned in writing in 1258 and remained the property of the Olomouc Chapter until 1848. Vranovice and Kelčice were merged in 1964 to form the municipality officially named Vranovice–Kelčice.

Both parts of the municipality preserve clearly recognisable linear village layouts with characteristic two-storey farmhouses. The parish of Vranovice has been mentioned in connection with the church “Kostel sv. Kunhuty” since 1399. The church “Kostel sv. Kunhuty” is a Romanesque cultural monument and is one of the oldest churches in the Prostějov region.
