Pontevedra: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The province of Pontevedra combines mountain landscapes with the coast of the Rías Baixas and offers viewpoints around the rías.

Nature

Monte Aloia was Galicia’s first nature park, covers 746 hectares and offers views of the Miño and Louro valleys. The Cyclopean Wall, Muralla Ciclópea at Monte Aloia, is located on this mountain. It consists of large stones laid without mortar, is 2,250 metres long and encloses the upper plateau of Alto de San Xiao.

The A Peneda mountain and Monte Acibal are located in the vicinity of Pontevedra.

Playa de A Lanzada has more than two kilometres of white, fine-grained sand. The intertidal complex Umia-O Grove, a wetland of ornithological interest, is located at Playa de A Lanzada. Playa de A Lanzada is suitable for water sports.

Culture

The medieval castle of Soutomaior, dating from the 12th century, is a fortified complex with a double ring of walls, a tower and an adjoining palace. Combarro was declared a historic-artistic ensemble in 1972 and has more than sixty hórreos, thirty of which stand directly by the sea.

The Sarmiento Building of the Museo de Pontevedra contains a two-storey cloister and a stone staircase dating from 1722. The fortified settlement of Castrolandín dates from the Late Iron Age and was inhabited between the 4th and 1st centuries BC. The A Lanzada Chapel is a Romanesque building from the beginning of the 13th century.

In the immediate vicinity of Pontevedra are the A formiga no carreiro Museum, the Centro Arqueolóxico da Caeira Museum and the Xardín de Casto San Pedro monument. The Combarro's Cross monument and Praia de Cesantes beach are also located in the vicinity of Pontevedra.

The A Arribada festival in Baiona takes place every year and commemorates the arrival of the caravel Pinta in 1493; following this arrival, Baiona was the first place in Europe to receive the news of the discovery of America. A Arribada has the status of “International Tourist Interest”.

A Rapa das bestas de Sabucedo is designated in the province of Pontevedra as a festival with the status of “International Tourist Interest”. The Romería Vikinga de Catoira also has this status as a festival in the province of Pontevedra. The Albariño Wine Festival in Cambados likewise has the status of “International Tourist Interest”.

Landscape and regional cuisine

The province of Pontevedra is particularly well known for its seafood, served with the Albariño typical of the region, which is at the heart of the Rías Baixas wine route.

Trails and thermal waters

The Camino del Sudeste – Vía de la Plata is designated as a nine-day, 212.3-kilometre route with nine recommended stages. It can be travelled on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. On the way to Santiago, the route passes through Dozón, Lalín, Silleda and A Estrada.

The public thermal spring A Burga was built in 1881; its water emerges at around 50°C from two lion heads. The Mirador de A Pastora viewpoint is located in the wider regional surroundings of Pontevedra.
