Culture and History

The rock engravings of Coto da Lameira are located in Moscoso. These rock engravings were declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 1975. The Cruceiro de Moscoso stands in the centre of Moscoso. Mestre Cerviño is considered to be the creator of the Cruceiro de Moscoso. The parish church of San Paio de Moscoso is one of the highlighted heritage parish churches in Pazos de Borbén. The cultural sites mentioned therefore have different local associations: Coto da Lameira is associated with Moscoso, the cruceiro with the town centre, and San Paio de Moscoso with its heritage classification in Pazos de Borbén.

Festivals and Dates

The Virxe dos Remedios festival is celebrated in Moscoso. The Festa da Chula takes place in Moscoso every year on the first Sunday in September. For planning purposes, the first Sunday in September can be noted as the date of the Festa da Chula. The date is therefore tied to a fixed weekday in September and not to an freely chosen day within the month.

Petroglyphs and Walking Trails

The A Peixeira petroglyph is located in the parish of Moscoso. A Peixeira can be reached on foot. The petroglyph is also known as Petroglifo da Pereira. Various engraved cup marks are visible at the A Peixeira petroglyph. A Peixeira therefore combines the alternative name, its location in the parish, access on foot and the visible engraved cup marks. Despite weather-related erosion, the Outeiro do Mar petroglyphs show visible circular motifs and crosses. From the town of Moscoso, the Outeiro do Mar petroglyphs can be reached on foot. For Outeiro do Mar, the town of Moscoso is the starting point of the walking route. The O Gorgoreiro and Casa da Rapadoira petroglyphs show circular motifs, cup marks and a foot-shaped motif.

Nature and Trails

The PR-G 164 runs through the surroundings of Moscoso. The trail is called Senda da Fraga do Barragán. The PR-G 164 passes through an area of native woodland. Native woodland is part of this area. Mills are also among the features along the route. Bridges are part of this trail area. Levadas are also located in this area. The remains found there include the settlement of A Cidade. The route description therefore connects a named trail with specific landscape and structural features: native woodland, mills, bridges, levadas and the remains of A Cidade all form part of the named trail area. If you plan to take the PR-G 164 in the surroundings of Moscoso, you can access it via the PO-252 road between Mondariz and Moscoso or via the parish of San Salvador de Xunqueiras. The two access points mentioned relate to the surroundings of Moscoso and do not lead to an additional classification of the trail as a town-centre route.
