On the right bank of the Miño River lies Playa de Camposancos. The PR-G 160 Ruta da Desembocadura do Miño runs along this beach by the water. The route is 8.6 kilometres long and passes through the Miño estuary, which is designated as L.I.C. Baixo Miño and Z.E.P.A. Esteiro do Miño. The beach, riverbank and estuary therefore form part of a continuous route that incorporates the riverside landscape into a longer trail. For personal day planning, the route length provides a concrete framework; current trail conditions should be checked before setting out on a hike. The route thus passes both along a section of beach and through the designated estuary area.
Nature
Another hiking route is the PR-G122 Caminos del Trega. It offers an ascent option from Camposancos. Praia de Camposancos, Praia Fedorento and Praia de Moledo are located nearby. All three destinations are beaches. This sequence of coastal and riverside destinations is complemented by Monte de Santa Trega, a mountain near Camposancos. The landscape therefore extends from the Miño riverbank and its estuary, through several beaches, to a mountain. The ascent option complements the route along the water with a different trail. For hikes, it is advisable to check current trail conditions before setting out.
Trails and pilgrimage route
Playa O Muíño is located on the Camiño Portugués da costa. In the O Couto district of Camposancos is A Poza, a fountain and public washing facility. In the parish of Camposancos, the remains of historic windmills can be seen from the Senda Litoral or the Ruta de las Cetarias. The Marco de O Couto is located at the beginning of a road directly on the Camino Portugués de la Costa.
Various traces therefore converge along these routes: a beach location on the Portuguese coastal route, a fountain with a public washing facility, historic windmills and a waymarker on the Camino. For a coastal route, current transport timetables may be relevant for the journey and should be checked in advance.
Culture and history
The Iglesia de Visitación Camposancos was built from 1816 onwards over a chapel dedicated to San Amaro and completed in the mid-19th century. La Casa Taller, a museum, is located near Camposancos. Museo do Mar is also a museum near Camposancos. The building history of the church connects the chapel of San Amaro with its completion in the 19th century. For museums, current opening hours are part of the usual visit planning; they should be checked before visiting.
The former Jesuit college stands in A Pasaxe; it is considered the seedbed of the University of Deusto. Forte da Lagardeira, a fortress, and Anta da Barrosa, a historic site, are also located in the surroundings of Camposancos.
