Discover Mondariz-Balneario

Mondariz-Balneario is home to the Palacio del Agua, a spa covering more than 3,000 m². The Circuito Celta is a balneotherapy circuit inspired by the ancient Celtic thermal culture. Fonte do Troncoso is a nitrous medicinal mineral spring; on 16 June 1873, it was declared to be of public utility.

Thermal springs

Fonte da Gándara is an iron-rich medicinal mineral spring. A classical pavilion stands above the spring, created by the architect Antonio Palacios Ramilo in 1908. Fonte da Gándara is located in the gardens of the Gran Hotel in the town centre. O Gran Hotel was designed by Xenaro de la Fonte; construction of the building was completed in 1898.

Nature

The River Tea and its tributaries, the Xabriña River and the Valdecide stream, cross Mondariz-Balneario. The landscape is protected under the Natura 2000 network. The Ruta da levada de Cambelas is a 2.59-kilometre circular route that begins in the town centre. It leads through the ecologically valuable del Rial forest and runs near the old Levada de Cambelas.

The Paseo do Troncoso is an 850-metre riverside path along the River Tea that begins at Fonte do Troncoso. Fonte do Troncoso is located 1 kilometre from the town centre on the banks of the River Tea. The spring can be reached via a short walk from the start of the Paseo do Tea.

The two named paths therefore run through different landscapes: the Ruta da levada de Cambelas leads through the del Rial forest and past the old Levada, while the Paseo do Troncoso follows the banks of the Tea. The figures of 2.59 kilometres and 850 metres make the extent of the routes immediately clear. The location of Fonte do Troncoso is also clearly described in relation to the town centre, the riverbank and the start of the Paseo do Tea.

Culture

The Capela de San Pedro was probably built in the Romanesque style in the 13th century and preserves medieval elements, including a possibly Romanesque Patée cross. According to tradition, the wedding of King Don Dienis of Portugal and Isabel de Aragón took place in the Capela de San Pedro in 1282.

The Dolmen-cruceiro de las Piedras is a prehistoric megalithic funerary monument with three crosses placed on it. The Monumento a Enrique Peinador Vela was inaugurated on 24 August 1919.

O Gran Hotel also brings architecture and local history together: the building was designed by Xenaro de la Fonte, and its construction was completed in 1898. The pavilion above Fonte da Gándara was created in 1908 according to a design by Antonio Palacios Ramilo. The Capela de San Pedro preserves another medieval element in the form of its possibly Romanesque Patée cross.

The Campo de Golf Balneario de Mondariz has 18 holes on an area of 50 hectares along the banks of the River Tea.
