Raxó has a strong maritime tradition.
Harbour and Beach
The small fishing harbour of Raxó lies between Raxó and Xiorto beaches. Raxó Beach is a 180-metre-long urban beach on the eastern side of Raxó harbour. From the higher areas of Raxó, there is a panoramic view over the Ría de Pontevedra, including Raxó harbour and Tambo Island. The view connects the immediate village area with the wider waterscape of the Ría.
The coastal setting is therefore evident in several clearly described locations: the fishing harbour lies between two beaches, while the urban beach is situated on the eastern side of the harbour. The higher areas open up views across the Ría de Pontevedra, incorporating not only the harbour but also Tambo Island into the panorama.
Water Activities
The water-based activities are also specifically connected with Raxó. The Club Náutico de Raxó offers sailing courses. Sea-kayaking tours on the Ría de Pontevedra start in Raxó.
The Ría de Pontevedra is both part of the landscape and the starting point for the sea-kayaking tours mentioned above. The sailing courses offered by the Club Náutico de Raxó and the kayaking tours are two different activities directly connected with the village and its waters.
Seafront Promenade and Gastronomy
The seafront promenade around the fishing harbour is the area where most of the accommodation and restaurants are concentrated. The promenade also offers a wide selection of restaurants, particularly fish and seafood restaurants.
The seafront promenade is therefore the explicitly named part of the village for accommodation and restaurants. Its location around the fishing harbour creates a link between the maritime centre of the village and the local restaurant scene, which notably includes fish and seafood restaurants.
Raxó has a Michelin-starred restaurant. The Pepe Vieira restaurant is located at Camiño da Serpe s/n in Raxó, Poio, Pontevedra; reservations can be made at 986 741 378 or by email at reservas@pepevieira.com.
Festivals and History
The Fiesta Gastronómica de Raxó takes place in the fourth week of July in a marquee on the village quay. The Church of San Gregorio in Raxó dates from the 16th century. The Romería de A Saleta takes place in Raxó in August.
Two dates are explicitly associated with Raxó in terms of the timing of local events: the Fiesta Gastronómica takes place in the marquee on the quay in the fourth week of July, while the Romería de A Saleta takes place in August. In addition, the Church of San Gregorio, which dates from the 16th century, points to the older history of the village.
