Between Carbia and Piloño lies the 413-metre-high summit of Monte Alcobre. From there, it offers excellent views over the Ulla Valley. The mountain thus combines a clearly identified elevation and a geographical location between two places with a far-reaching landscape panorama.

Nature

In Carbia (San Xoán) lies Coto da Madanela, a viewpoint. The name adds a second specifically designated location within Carbia to the landscape context. Monte Alcobre and Coto da Madanela therefore each represent a separate viewpoint and retain their distinct local associations.

The remains of a historic fortification can also be found on the summit of Alcobre. Apparently, only foundation remains and a few ditches have survived. The evidence does not point to a fully preserved complex, but rather to a few visible structural traces on the summit.

Culture

In Pastoriza, Carbia, the Igrexa de Santa Madanela is part of the built cultural heritage. Another church, the Igrexa de Carbia, is located in O Casal in Carbia and is also known as Parroquial de San Xoán. The name, location and alternative designation of this building are thus directly connected.

The Baroque parish church of Carbia was built in 1766. As a religious church, the IGREXA PARROQUIAL DE SAN XOÁN DE CARBIA forms part of the cultural heritage. Both details refer to the same cultural context, but place different emphasis on it: the year 1766 identifies the construction of the Baroque parish church, while the full designation records its religious classification and heritage status.

Carbia's older history is also connected with ecclesiastical contexts. An inventory from 971 lists Carbia among the places included in a donation to Sobrado Monastery. The documented historical connection therefore reaches back to the Early Middle Ages, without implying any further state of preservation of the settlement structures of that time.

History and Tradition

The Romaría da Madanela is associated with a chapel on the summit of Monte Madanela. The history of this sacred building also includes the fact that the Capela da Madalena served as a fire watchtower and a geodetic surveying point. The chapel is therefore connected both with religious tradition and with two former functions.

The connection between the summit, chapel and Romaría gives Madanela its own distinct historical and local identity. While the Romaría refers to the local tradition, the description of the Capela da Madalena names its two specific former functions: fire watchtower and geodetic surveying point.

In the municipality of Vila de Cruces, the municipality identifies Portodemouros as a location for rowing, sailing, canoeing and water skiing. Also in Vila de Cruces, a gastronomic festival of Galician tourist interest centres on Galo de Curral. Thus, alongside churches, chapels and the remains of fortifications, water sports and festival culture also appear as distinct themes in the wider local context.
