Culture and history

The Tourón Archaeological Area covers more than 150,000 square metres and offers the opportunity to visit five rock-carving sites. The circular route through the Tourón Archaeological Area is fully signposted. The extensive site thus links several locations into one interconnected archaeological area. The five sites give the visit a clearly recognisable sequence of individual locations, while the signs make the route of the circular trail easy to follow on site.

The Ponte de Caldelas is a bridge built from granite blocks in the 16th century over the Verdugo River. It has four semicircular arches. During the Peninsular War in 1809, a historic battle against French troops took place on the bridge. This structure therefore brings together the older granite construction, its location over the river, and a specific event from the local history.

The cultural heritage of Ponte Caldelas also includes the Indian houses. They are regarded as valuable and irreplaceable cultural heritage, as well as a symbol of a unique historical period. Alongside the bridge and the archaeological area, these buildings thus represent another visible part of the town's history.

Routes

The Camino Real, also known as the Ruta dos Arrieiros, begins in the parish of Forzáns in Ponte Caldelas and ends in the parish of Marcón in Pontevedra. The starting and ending points are therefore located in two specifically named parishes. These two place names mark a connection between Ponte Caldelas and Pontevedra and give the route a clearly named starting point and destination.

The Ruta das Almiñas y Foso do Lobo begins at the church of Caritel and ends there again. The church of Caritel is therefore both the starting point and the endpoint of this route. Its course is consequently tied to a single explicitly named place, to which the route returns.

Nature

The Verdugo River runs through the town of Ponte Caldelas and the municipality of Ponte Caldelas. Dense vegetation grows along its banks. In the town, its clear water becomes calmer. The river course, riverside vegetation, and calmer water in the town thus form different landscape features within the same body of water.

Os Pasos are used to ford the river on the old road from Ponte Caldelas to A Lama. The river and this old road are therefore among the explicitly named landscape and route features of the area. The fords connect the river landscape with a historic route towards A Lama.

Tradition

The Festa da Troita has been celebrated in Ponte Caldelas since 1967. It takes place on the last Sunday in May. It includes an international salmonid fishing competition. The festival thus combines a tradition documented since 1967, an annually निर्धारित date, and the explicitly named fishing competition.
