Forcarei: Trails, Wetlands and Cultural Heritage

The Ruta das Pontes do Lérez is a 14.6-kilometre linear hiking trail that passes through gallery forests where herons and cormorants can be observed.
Hiking and Trails
The Camiño Miñoto-Ribeiro crosses the municipality of Forcarei along an approximately 25-kilometre route from southeast to northwest.
The Senda das Neveiras is an approximately 9.8-kilometre hiking trail that encompasses a variety of landscapes, from the peaks of the Serra do Candán to riverside forests, and features informative and directional signage.
The 15-kilometre Ruta Aciveiro–Candán is a circular route that starts at the Mosteiro de Aciveiro and runs along the edge of the protected Serra do Candán.
The Ruta Xacobea da Geira e dos Arrieiros is 14 kilometres long and runs from Pardesoa to A Mámoa.
Culture and History
The Mosteiro de Aciveiro is a Romanesque Cistercian monastery built in the 12th century.
The Neveiras de Fixó form an archaeological complex consisting of two ice houses from the 17th century, which were used by the monks of the Mosteiro de Aciveiro to store snow and ice.
The Centro Etnográfico Terra de Montes, also known as CETMO, is dedicated to researching, preserving and promoting the comarca's tangible cultural heritage.
In the municipality of Forcarei, 77 Mámoas have been identified and mapped; these burial mounds served as burial sites during the Neolithic period.

Nature and Landscape
Brañas de Xestoso is a 1,077-hectare continental wetland with habitats consisting of wetlands and wet heathlands.
The area is known for its ornithological value and is home to protected species such as the little bustard (Tetrax tetrax), the European tree frog Hyla arborea, and the bat species Myotis myotis and Rhinolophus ferrumequinum.
The Serra do Candán is characterised by scrubland, striking rock outcrops and open horizons with few settlements.
Around the Fervenza de A Graña Albariza e antiga central, a waterfall, an albariza, a former power station, a reservoir and a viewpoint come together.
Events and Activities
The Festa gastronómica da Richada is a gastronomic event centred on Richada meat, which is typical of Forcarei; the programme includes workshops, concerts and cultural events.
The Observatorio Astronómico in Forcarei offers activities that bring science closer to the public, particularly children and young people.
The Torrente do Rego do Castro is located near the village of Chamosa and is used as a canyoning location by some adventure tourism companies.
