Yvelines offers hiking and relaxation in nature on foot, on horseback or by bicycle. The area has 1,294 kilometres of walking trails and more than 850 kilometres of cycling infrastructure. Landscape

Natural and agricultural areas account for 85 % of Yvelines; in addition, there are 70,000 hectares of woodland. The landscapes of Yvelines combine valleys, the Seine corridor, rolling agricultural areas and the Rambouillet forest massif. The valley networks include wetlands, meadows and calcareous grasslands.

Culture and history

The Gardens of Versailles were created and laid out by André Le Nôtre from 1661 onwards. The Château de Rambouillet was successively a royal, imperial and presidential residence. The Musée d'Archéologie nationale presents collections ranging from prehistory to the early Middle Ages at the Domaine national du château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye; the royal château and gardens are also located there. The Château de la Madeleine was built between the 11th and 14th centuries.

In the surroundings of Yvelines are Château de Saint-Hubert, Chateau De Dampierre, Port-Royal des Champs Abbey and Abbaye Notre-Dame d'Abbecourt (Orgeval, Yvelines).

In the wider regional surroundings of Yvelines are Jardins de Versailles, Arche de la Défense, Jardin du Trocadero and Bois de Boulogne.
