The area around Mareil-Marly has been a route between the plain of Versailles and the Seine since the earliest times. At the beginning of the 20th century, the town’s agricultural production shifted to fruit growing, with pear, apple, plum and cherry trees, as well as soft fruits such as currants, raspberries and strawberries.

History and culture
The municipal properties around the Église Saint-Étienne were placed under heritage protection by a decree dated 3 June 1935. The church houses the 14th-century sculptural group “La Lapidation de saint Étienne”. Its bell is listed as a protected movable cultural asset and bears the signature of Louis Gaudiveau and the year 1644.
The historic townscape also includes two wash houses: the Lavoir de la Fontaine des Saules was restored in 1993, while the Lavoir des Marivaux was built in 1886.
The former station reception building was converted into a hybrid third place under the name “La Gare”. La Gare offers opportunities for cultural encounters, the exchange of knowledge and socialising. Les Vergers de Mareil organises events and develops educational and cultural resources.
Tram line 13 stops on the platform behind the windows of the Café de la Gare.
