Culture

The Église Saint-Gilles et Saint-Leu originally dates from the 13th century; its nave was rebuilt in the 19th century. The Église Saint-Leu Saint-Gilles also houses a statue of the Vierge à l’Enfant in the choir, which has been protected as a movable object under the heritage protection regulations since 4 December 1914.

The Château du Tremblay-sur-Mauldre was built by François Mansart in the first half of the 17th century. Its façades, roofs and outbuildings have been classified as historic monuments since 5 December 1979. The park, the interior of the Château du Tremblay-sur-Mauldre and the outbuildings have been included in the register of historic monuments since 11 February 1991.

The Grande rue is also part of the village’s notable streetscape. Buildings of particular interest, striking portals with pillars made of stone or millstone and rounded walls, as well as paved pavements, contribute to its architectural and urban character.

The preserved ruins of the La Hunière fortress form a circular structure with a diameter of 70 m, surrounded by a 10 m-wide moat. The Sente Blaise Cendrars was named on 14 May 1994 on the occasion of the transfer of the writer’s remains to the cemetery of Le Tremblay.

The Ferme d’Ithe comprises the remains of a Cistercian farm dating from the 11th to the 15th century, located on the site of the ancient Gallo-Roman settlement of Diodurum. At the same time, the Ferme d’Ithe reveals a succession of historical layers spanning more than twenty centuries.

Several entrances to Le Tremblay-sur-Mauldre offer views of the village or its centre and show contrasts between wooded or agriculturally used areas and the built-up environment.

In connection with Diodurum and the Ferme d’Ithe, APSADiodurum organises cultural events, educational workshops, and archaeological and restoration work. At the Ferme d’Ithe, a guided tour of the ruins is offered, including an introduction to archaeology in an educational excavation area.
