Nature
Auffargis is one of the municipalities included in the Réserve biologique dirigée de la Forêt de Rambouillet. In Auffargis, the Réserve naturelle nationale des étangs et rigoles d'Yveline also includes underground sections of land that partly correspond to the Petit Perray and Grand Perray aqueducts.
Hiking
The “Vallée intime et rigoles royales” hike passes through the wooded valley of the ru des Vaux and then follows the ponds and channels created under Louis XIV. Another route, “De l'ancienne Sablière aux eaux”, is five kilometres long and runs through the Bois domanial des Vindrins east of Auffargis.
The “L’aqueduc de Vieille-Église et les rigoles d’Auffargis” hike explores part of the hydraulic network created under Louis XIV to convey water to the Palace of Versailles. The Fontaine du Roi spring is protected by a dome made of millstone; its garden has a sheltered area where walkers can rest.
Culture and History
The Lavoir de Saint-Benoist in Auffargis is an Art Deco washhouse. It was built in 1929 by the Rothschild family and donated to the residents of the hamlet.
The Manoir des Arts is an art gallery where Cyrille Morin and Muriel Chéné present glass and crystal works. It houses a permanent exhibition of their work.
The present-day parish church of Saint-André was built in 1854. Its bell tower with porch is typical of the religious architecture of the second half of the 19th century.
The Château de la Fontaine was designed in 1876 by the architect Yver for himself. It features limestone and red-brick ornamentation, as well as towers with pepper-pot roofs.
