Carrières-Sur-Seine: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

History and Culture

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste was built in the first half of the 13th century. Its Romanesque reredos are a bas-relief dated to approximately 1125–1150 and one of the oldest surviving reredos in France. A stone copy of this medieval reredos, created by the Carrières-sur-Seine sculptor Jean-Marie Dit Moisson, was installed in the church in 1999.

The Grange aux Dîmes is also part of the town’s historic heritage: its façade has been listed as a Monument historique since 15 February 1940. The visible entrance gate and a preserved section of the Grange aux Dîmes are privately owned and can be seen from Rue Gabriel Péri. The 19th-century Lavoir in Carrières-sur-Seine has been fully restored and now hosts painting exhibitions.

Sightseeing

The Maison du Patrimoine and the Bove du Pressoir at Cour du Soleil are open to the public and school groups free of charge on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in June, September, and early October; guided tours are also available on request. The Maison du Patrimoine presents permanent collections on the rural occupations of porters, mushroom growers, market gardeners, and winegrowers, as well as reconstructions of typical scenes from village life in Carrières-sur-Seine during the past century. Cour du Soleil welcomes visitors for cultural tours at weekends in June and September. It contains an 18th-century press belonging to the Sarazin family, which is listed in the heritage inventory.

Au Fil de l’Art organizes an art trail through the old village of Carrières-sur-Seine every year in early October. The trail includes exhibitions and demonstrations offering insights into arts and crafts professions. Carrara City is a limestone quarry in Carrières-sur-Seine that is now dedicated to artistic activities and events and can be visited throughout the year during tours organized by the tourist office. Landscape and Trails

Along the banks of the Seine in Carrières-sur-Seine, visitors can follow a route on foot or by bicycle that runs past the washhouse, the Parc de la Mairie, and the market gardens. The Parc de la Mairie is a 17th-century French-style garden. It was designated a classified site in 1945 and has two ponds.
