The “Villette – Bois et coteaux” route is a 5 to 10 km circular trail with a walking time of 2 to 4 hours and passes the Moulin de Chavannes. It is open year-round and free to access. The starting point is the car park opposite Villette town hall on Rue de l’Église.

Culture

The Église Saint-Martin is dedicated to Saint Martin. It lies between the course of the Vaucouleurs to the east and the Mauru Canal, also known as Mort Ru, to the west. The Saint-Martin church in Villette has a vaulted, wood-clad roof structure in the shape of an inverted ship’s keel dating from the 16th century and is considered a Romanesque building.

The statue “Vierge de l’Annonciation” is also associated with the parish church of Saint-Martin in Villette.

Local Discoveries

The Pisciculture de Villette was founded in 1896. It has a trout fishing pond with picnic tables, benches, toilets, a barbecue and a pétanque court. Children aged four and over can fish in pools there; equipment is loaned to them.

The Pisciculture de Villette includes an ecomuseum housed in a 16th-century watermill. The discovery trail and the ecomuseum can be accessed free of charge during the shop’s opening hours.

The Pisciculture de Villette shop mainly sells smoked products made on site, including salmon and trout smoked over a wood fire, as well as terrines and rillettes made from trout or salmon. A tour of the Pisciculture de Villette can be followed by a tasting of its specialities with a glass of white wine; the tour lasts two hours and costs €10 per person. Tours of the Pisciculture de Villette and its smokehouse-cannery can be arranged for groups.

History

The Vaucouleurs and the Mauru were formerly crossed by villagers at fords.
