Culture and History

King Louis VI le Gros (1108–1137) is believed to have first built a royal residence on the “Plateau de laye” around 1120.

The Maison natale Claude-Debussy is classified as a historic monument. It is the only museum dedicated to Claude Debussy and is located in a 17th-century house.

The Église Saint-Germain has been classified as a historic monument since 1937 and contains frescoes by Amaury Duval.

The Espace Paul-et-André-Vera displays works by Paul Vera, including paintings, drawings, ceramics and tapestries. It also features garden plans created with his brother André during the interwar period, which contributed to the renown of the Art Deco movement.

Open Spaces and Views

The Domaine national de Saint-Germain-en-Laye offers 70 hectares of preserved open space. The Grande Terrasse de Le Nôtre is 30 metres wide and 2,400 metres long. It is a highly acclaimed walking route offering beautiful views over the west of Paris.

Festivals

The Fête des Loges has taken place every summer in Saint-Germain-en-Laye for almost four centuries.

The Noctilien N153 connects Paris-Saint-Lazare station with Saint-Germain-en-Laye station in both directions between 12:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Saint-Germain-en-Laye is also the terminus of line A of the RER on the Saint-Germain-en-Laye branch.
