Culture

Le SAX is a public music venue in Achères. It was inaugurated in November 1991 and is a public establishment (EPIC) of the city of Achères. The venue presents contemporary music and other contemporary art forms, including performances for young audiences.

Throughout the season, Le SAX offers an interdisciplinary programme featuring contemporary music and activities for young audiences. Two highlights are the Les Pépites Sonores children’s music festival in March and April and the UltraZik festival of overseas music in May and June. Residencies also provide opportunities to meet artists while they are working on their creative projects.

History

The Church of Saint Martin is part of the historical heritage of the town of Achères. It was probably built between 1180 and 1212 on the site of an earlier church. Its 27-metre-high bell tower rises above the choir; at the bottom, it is supported by four large pillars.

Library

The Paul-Eluard Municipal Library is free of charge and open to everyone. It provides access to almost 50,000 books, more than 2,000 DVDs, and over 100 newspaper and magazine subscriptions.

Throughout the year, the cultural programme includes read-aloud sessions, children’s shows, creative and artistic workshops, games, conferences, literary events, a book club, and a youth club. It also features art and documentary exhibitions, staged readings, and themed days and evenings.

Cinema

Ciné Achères Pandora is a cinema with three screens and seating for 137, 67, and 63 people. It specialises in arthouse, research, and discovery films and belongs to the Europa Cinemas network, the first network of cinemas with predominantly European programming.
