Culture and history

The Église Saint-Georges is listed as a historic monument in Sonchamp; its main construction phases date from the 11th, 13th, 16th and 19th centuries.

At Petit Maroc, archaeological remains attest to several successive settlements between 5000 and 3000 BC. The Petit Maroc archaeological site includes a Mesolithic camp of hunter-gatherers with settlement areas, small huts containing circular stone hearths, and workshops for making hunting weapons. Since the site was discovered in 1935, hundreds of thousands of flint flakes, tools and triangular arrowheads have been found; the arrowheads are now known as „Sonchamp points“.

The Château de Pinceloup was built in brick and stone in a style typical of the reign of Louis XIII. The Grand Lavoir on the Rémarde was built in 1889 and restored around 1950.

Local produce

From mid-August to the end of October, the Ferme de Louareux offers apple picking. During the harvest, guided orchard visits are available for groups and school classes; there is also an on-site shop. Les Jardins de la Chéraille sells vegetables and fruit in the hamlet of La Chéraille in Sonchamp.

Near La Réverderie in Sonchamp, the Rémarde is considered to have its source; however, its precise source is difficult to determine because of the numerous springs.
