History

According to Abbé Gauthier, Paray-Douaville became a parish in 850 under the rule of Charles the Bald. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Paray-Douaville became a priory. From the 15th century until 1791, the church of Paray-Douaville was dependent on Clairefontaine Abbey.

The Church of Saint Peter is located in Paray-Douaville at 26b rue de Barthélémy. In the parish church of Saint Peter, the painting “Saint Louis après la bataille de Damiette” from the 19th century is located on the south wall of the last bay of the nave. A holy water font is assigned to the parish church of Saint Peter in the cemetery.

The cemetery cross of Paray-Douaville is an octagonal cross dating from the 12th century. After being damaged during the Revolution, it was rebuilt between 1853 and 1858.

The tomb of Marie Henriette de Barthélémy bears the coat of arms of the Barthélémy family and is designed in the Neo-Gothic style. The tomb of Eléonore Guenon is the grave of the parish priest of Paray-Douaville, who died in 1892; it is signed “Gasnot à Auneau”.

The sugar factory in the hamlet of Le Petit Orme was built in 1876 for the Compagnie La Sucrerie de Paray. Paray-Douaville is home to the former distillery, the shed and the director’s house of the sugar factory.

The central section of the Château de Douaville dates from the 18th century; two side wings were added to the Château de Douaville at the end of the 19th century. Between 1876 and 1914, the railway line promoted economic development in the northern part of the municipality of Paray-Douaville.

The Boucle d’Allainville hiking route passes through Paray-Douaville and follows an old Roman road that connected Paris with Orléans.
