Culture and History
The Église Saint-Léonard houses the Pascal chandelier, a 19th-century object that was protected as movable cultural heritage in 1987.
The Puits des Granges was dug in 1791 because the Fontaine Frileuse no longer provided enough water for the village population. The well is approximately 36 metres deep and has an internal diameter of 1.40 metres. Its restoration began in May 2024 and was completed at the end of 2025.
The Fontaine frileuse was the village’s first well and remained in operation until the 18th century. Its water is considered to remain at 15 °C in both summer and winter.
Nature
The Forêt domaniale de Dourdan covers 1,600 hectares. More than 60 bird species are found in this forest. One of its well-known trees is the Chêne des 6 frères: it has six trunks, is described as being 33 metres tall with a span of 6.70 metres, and is believed to be approximately 500 years old.
The “Chemin à la Découverte des Arbres” is designed as an educational nature trail. Informative slate plaques have been installed beside every tree along the route. As part of this trail, at least 35 trees and shrubs were recorded in the region.

The Forêt domaniale de Bréau - Dourdan state forest also extends across Les Granges-le-Roi and is accessible on foot or by bicycle.
The Abbaye de l’Ouÿe now belongs to the Diocese of Paris and cannot be visited. The “Randonnée de l’Abbaye de l’Ouÿe” hike is 9 kilometres long and takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. The “Alouettes et Pinsons” circular route runs between the Dourdan forest and the centre of Les Granges-Le-Roi.
