The Parque Natural Laguna Negra y Circos Glaciares de Urbión nature park is located in the north of the province of Soria and covers 4,617 hectares. It is part of the Natura 2000 network and includes a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) as well as a Site of Community Importance (SCI). Its glacial lagoons include Laguna Negra, Laguna Larga, Laguna Helada, Laguna Mansegosa and Laguna del Hornillo.
The Reserva Natural Acebal de Garagüeta nature reserve covers 406.4 hectares and is located in the north of the province of Soria, within the municipality of Arévalo de la Sierra. The holly tree (Ilex aquifolium) is a protected species in Castile and León. The Abión River rises in the Monumento Natural La Fuentona natural monument; underground springs there form a unique habitat for many species.
Nature
The Parque Natural del Cañón del Río Lobos nature park is a natural landscape shaped by river erosion and karst formation, and is of particular geological, faunal and botanical interest. The Sierra de Santa Ana is a mountain in the vicinity of Soria.
Trails and scenic routes
The PR-SO-69 hiking trail, “La ruta de los Castros”, crosses the Reserva Natural Acebal de Garagüeta nature reserve. The Ruta del Duero follows the Duero River from its source in the Parque Natural de la Laguna Negra y los Circos Glaciares de Urbión nature park through Duruelo de la Sierra to Langa de Duero. Along the banks of the Duero, the Ruta del Duero combines river landscapes with historic ensembles, castles, fortified towns, monasteries and Romanesque sites.
During the summer months or on public holidays with high visitor numbers, access to Laguna Negra by private vehicle is prohibited. Vehicles are then parked at the Paso de la Serrá car park, and the rest of the journey is made on foot or by bus. The described route to Laguna Negra leads via the N-234 towards Burgos as far as Cidones, then towards Vinuesa and through the Valle del Revinuesa valley.
Culture and history
The Museo Numantino de Soria is an archaeological museum with a permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions. The Museo Numantino is listed as a museum in the vicinity of Soria. The Palace of los Ríos y Salcedo and the Palace of the Counts of Gomara are also located in the same vicinity.
The ancient site Yacimiento Arqueológico de Numancia is located in the vicinity of Soria. The archaeological site Yacimiento Arqueológico de Uxama is a Celtiberian-Roman city; its Roman ruins were classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1997. An information centre is located at the entrance to the archaeological site; access to the archaeological site is free.
Wine and regional routes
The Ruta del Vino Ribera del Duero promotes wine tourism in the Soria area through visits to wineries and wine tastings. In Atauta, 130 traditional wine cellars were protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the category of an ethnological ensemble. Together with wineries, wine presses and other associated buildings, they form the best-preserved ensemble on the Ribera del Duero wine route.

The Mirador de los Cuatro Vientos viewpoint is located in the vicinity of Soria, as is the Mirador de Romera viewpoint. The Alameda de Cervantes park is also located in the vicinity of Soria. The Casa del Parque del Cañón del Río Lobos serves as a contact point for organising visits to the nature park.
