The Church of San Juan Bautista in Salduero was completed in 1733, has a Gothic chapel and contains Rococo altarpieces.

The sacred architecture also includes the Ermita del Santo Cristo. It is built of dressed stone and lies along the road from Salduero to the neighbouring village of Molinos de Duero. The townscape therefore features two distinct ecclesiastical buildings: the Church of San Juan Bautista with its historic interiors and the dressed-stone hermitage on the connecting road.

Accommodation and Townscape

When comparing a holiday apartment in Salduero, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions are objective points of comparison.

Culture

The festival of San Juan Bautista takes place on 24 June. It includes a mass with songs composed locally and the offering of a small pine branch decorated with sweets and other ornaments. The feast day thus combines the name of the local church with religious customs and traditions upheld by the community.

The La Cruz festival on 3 May includes Pingar el Mayo. During this custom, a pine tree is raised by hand. The two festivals mentioned take place on different days of the calendar and each preserve their own ritual.

On the Saturday evening closest to Saint John's Day, the banks of the Duero and parts of Salduero's streets are illuminated with more than 3,000 candles; concerts are held as well. The candlelight is therefore not confined to a single venue, but extends along the riverbanks and parts of the streets.

The festivities held on 5 August culminate in a traditional Caldereta in the El Bañadero area. Veal is cooked there and distributed among residents and visitors. In addition to the religious festivals, a locally named food event is therefore also part of Salduero's annual calendar.

The Centro de Interpretación de Pinares explains the life, customs, economy and culture of the village during the period of carretería. The Casa Museo Maximino Peña displays works by the painter Maximino Peña, who was born in Salduero in 1863. The two institutions have different focuses: one is dedicated to local history, while the other focuses on the work and origins of a single artist.

Nature

Salduero's characteristic vegetation includes extensive pine and oak forests as well as heather, thyme and broom. The landscape is therefore shaped both by large expanses of trees and by lower-growing plants such as heather, thyme and broom.

Animals representative of Salduero include deer, wild boar, squirrels, eagles, roe deer and foxes.

The water of the Duero near Salduero comes from snowmelt in the high mountains as well as from springs and streams that rise in the pine forests. The river is therefore described in terms of both its seasonal source in snowmelt and the tributaries fed by springs and forest streams.
