Tardelcuende combines a completely natural cycling area, varied pine landscapes and tangible evidence of its history. The Espacio BTT is a completely natural, freely accessible and open cycling area for cyclists of all abilities. In addition, the Ruta de los árboles de Tardelcuende leads as an educational trail with information boards through a great variety of trees and plants from the region. In this way, sporting activity and accessible natural history are available side by side as different ways of experiencing the area.

Nature

Various pine species grow in the wooded areas of Tardelcuende, including laricio, albar, piñonero and resinero, as well as holm oaks and oaks. The variety of tree species shapes the natural environment and provides the thematic framework for the educational trail. Tardelcuende also offers opportunities for birdwatching in extensive pine and oak forests, steppe lagoons, river gorges, dehesas and up to the high-altitude areas; a diverse fauna can be found there. This places different landscape forms and observation areas at the centre, rather than just a single type of natural environment. Tardelcuende offers clear skies with little light pollution, where constellations can be observed in good quality and in peace. The sky adds a nighttime focus to the landscape experiences.

Activities

The Ruta micológica Los Vallejuelos is a designated mushroom route in Tardelcuende. Mushroom collecting in the wooded areas of Tardelcuende is regulated and requires the appropriate permit. Cycling, information about trees and plants, birdwatching, the designated mushroom route and observing constellations each have a different focus: active travel, close observation of vegetation, wildlife watching, natural history and looking up at the night sky take turns here.

Culture and History

The Casa natal de D. Juan Antonio Gaya Nuño is a two-storey house where Juan Antonio Gaya Nuño was born on 29 January 1913. The Piedra de San Gregorio is a 1.2-metre-high, cube-shaped sandstone monolith with a bowl. In the past, it separated the lands of the Realengo of Tardelcuende from those belonging to a barony. Both sites introduce tangible historical traces into the understanding of the area: the birthplace points to a person and a precisely dated event, while the monolith documents an earlier territorial boundary.
