Casarejos: Cañón del Río Lobos, Nature and Village Culture

The Río Lobos has cut deeply into the limestone of the Sierra de Nafría, forming a 25-kilometre-long river valley known as Cañón del Río Lobos. Culture and History

The parish church of Casarejos is of Romanesque origin and features later alterations from the 17th and 18th centuries. The pilgrimage held every 24 August at the hermitage of San Bartolomé in Cañón del Río Lobos is regarded as the most representative festivity. The pilgrimage to the hermitage of San Roque takes place on 16 August; participants are offered bread and wine. On Good Friday, a procession leads to the hermitage of Virgen de las Angustias, where an auction of rollos and banzos takes place. The stick dances inside the church are associated with 23 and 24 January. Casarejos also has an important tradition of theatrical performances.
