Discover Arenillas: GR-86, Lavender Fields and Churches

The GR-86 Alaló-Arenillas stage is 9.9 kilometres long and runs entirely through steppe landscapes. It is suitable for cycling along 95 percent of its route. Landscape and Trails

In the immediate vicinity of Arenillas, the GR-86 passes through a small rocky enclave formed by the Arroyo Parado. This enclave is home to a small population of the rock geranium Erodium glandulosum. There, the plant has five pink petals, only two of which bear metallic spots. The combination of the landform and botanical detail provides two different scales for viewing the surroundings, without requiring you to commit to just one way of exploring them. The shape of the terrain and the small plant population can be considered independently of one another.

Nature and Lavender

Arenillas is surrounded by extensive fields of lavender and other aromatic plants used in perfume production. On the banks of the Talegones River, local residents produce lavender essence by distilling the plant in old iron cauldrons; this essence can be purchased. Culture

The Iglesia de San Salvador is located in the wider regional surroundings of Arenillas. In Arenillas itself stands the Gothic Iglesia de San Cipriano y Santa Justina, which was remodelled in the 18th century. Its main altar is designed in the Churrigueresque style. The Fuente romana may be of Roman origin; it is built from ashlar stones with a half-barrel vault. Arenillas also has the Ermita de San Martín, a hermitage dedicated to Saint Martin. Arenillas also has an ethnographic museum. The Boina Fest was launched in 2015 as a self-managed and fully community-run festival.
